Usui Reiki Ryoho, is a method of healing born out of the experience and dedication of Dr. Mikao Usui 1865-1926. We can learn about the life of Dr Usui from the dedication on his memorial stone, and I've dedicated a page to this. Reiki can be translated as universal life energy, and is used as shorthand for Reiki Ryoho, meaning Reiki healing. Reiki practitioners are given atunements, and trained in the methods that have been passed down from Dr. Usui to subsequent masters. Reiki is often refered to as energy healing, and I believe that most people who recieve Reiki will experience its energy flow. Most clients will feel a deep sense of calm, and will have peaceful feelings after recieving Reiki. The Reiki will go to where it is most needed, and clients also report sensations of both warming, and cooling, as well as stimulation of the digestive system, and other organs, which can sometimes cause gassiness, or gurgling. This is all to be expected and nothing to worry about. Reiki can also produce an emotional release, and some clients will experience surges of happiness, sorrow, or even irritation. This is also a natural part of the healing process. Reiki is also likely to induce a medatitive state, and you may experience visions, vivid memories, or see colours.
It is best for the client to be as comfortable as possible, and for a Reiki session I would ask the client to wear their most comfortable clothing. Reiki can be recieved in a seated position, but most people are more comfortable lying down. This can be either on a traditional Reiki table, or on the futon. If it is easy for the client to get up and down from the floor, then this is likely to be more comfortable, and relaxing.
